For this assignment, I decided to choose a movie that Netflix had requested for me based on what i like on Netflix. (Such as The Walking Dead, Riverdale, Hunger Games, Hush, Law and Order: SVU, and Pretty Little Liars.) Then, my top suggestion was the movie Final girl, I observed the movie poster and thought it seemed like a crime, thriller, action type movie and those are my favorite aspects to have in a movie/show! Also, the girl is holding an axe and it seems violent! Although, it is a women who holds the power and I believe that is always a good movie, when even though she is standing next to two strong men, she still holds the power. Next, it had a type of sophistication that came with it, just like scandal. So, even though there may be death, it will be swift and hopefully not so gory! Therefore, I thought maybe it could be a good fit for me.
Next, I looked at the trailer and it gave the indication that this was an action thriller with a young, small girl, up against 4 men who are skilled in their psychotic chasing and killing of women. To me, this made this movie seem interesting, it intrigued me because this seemed like such a challenge for the young girl in the film that would keep me on my toes throughout the movie. Also, this seemed to be the type of movie that could have a horrible ending or a hero ending, either way, I was excited to know what was to come! After watching this movie, I was very impressed by the film and enjoyed it very much. As expected, I was constantly on my toes and was scared at every corner. My expectations were met and I was very thankful that the trailer didn't give away too much! Sometimes, trailers will give away the entire storyline and could turn into a video of spoilers. Although, this was not the case for this movie, I was excited by the trailer but there was still a lot in the movie that I was shocked or surprised by. The movie was clearly an action and thriller movie because of the murder, chasing, and suspension that was in the film. Also, this was shown in the trailer, therefore, there was no surprises on the genre of the film. What they did not include in the trailer was the sarcasm that each character had that almost enlightened the mood of the film. Even though there was murder, the characters had a sense of irony that they had, almost like Negan from the walking dead (he is extremely sarcastic and funny even though he is a killer). I was not expecting that sense of sarcasm but since I like sarcasm, I was alright with it! :) Anticipation, suspension, and worry were all feelings I experienced while watching this movie, which are all feelings I enjoy to have while watching a movie. Personally, I would prefer a movie that (once again) keeps me on my toes and by my surprise, can make me laugh at the same time. My favourite show is the walking dead which says a lot about what kind of television I enjoy to watch, action. Therefore, I definitely enjoyed this movie because it gave me all of the experiences that I had wished to have. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good action movie and something that will always keep you watching to the end!

The Shawshank Redemption was a very interesting and mysterious movie in my opinion. In other words, an emotional roller coaster. Personally, I really enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to anyone. It was very entertaining mostly because of the notion of there being no limits. The movie was unpredictable in that anyone could die or leave, such as the old man and Tommy. Therefore, because of these limits, it made me realize that anything could happen at any time!
Because of this, my favorite parts in the movie were actually the parts where I knew something was going to happen, such as Brooks and the Warden. Those were the changes of the plots that kept me watching. Even so, there were a few parts that could have been better, such as the isolation in the underground cells. I think they didn't really show much of that and how that changed a man. I believe they could have elaborated on this to have developed the character of Andy more deep and unbreakable. Andy was a very complicated character that I believe was portrayed very well, he was always looking like he was soul searching, thinking, and keeping to himself (which he was). This ties into the plot and how all of this intelligence and thinking he was doing led to his escape, he was keeping busy while being very contained and to himself. Not only him, but also the acting job of Morgan Freeman was very well done, he always had a cheeky smile on his face and I was sincerely touched by his final scene when he was accepted instead of rejected, and this is because he was finally honest and I was touched by it, and he was rewarded because of it! One of his quotes was very real I believe, "get busy living or get busy dying". I think this is something that is relatable for anyone. Either start living your life or depressingly live it to ultimately you reach death. Thus, the phrase "YOLO". I think its an important message to everyone so they know that you only have one life, and you should live that life to the fullest. I think this movie can be a great message to anyone my age and I believe it was a mistake when this movie was flopped at the Box office. People were paying attention to another movie and didn't realize the potential this movie had. Although, things changed and it is now on everyone's must watch list because it is a classic! This is where Morgan Freeman became immensely famous and no on has forgotten him since. Therefore, this can be considered a shining moment in his acting career and also the beginning! I think now that everyone knows the name Morgan Freeman, it has gotten on their list for top movies to watch! Making it, in my opinion, a Hollywood classic. This is because it is where Morgan began his serious acting career (as said before) making it a Hollywood classic! Not only the actors and the plot was excellent, but also the overall setting of it and minimal editing. Such as the gun shots used to kill Tommy and the Warden, both were very life like and did not seem so edited. Although, these are the only real parts that needed an editing skill besides long shots, close ups and high shots. The music was also appropriately timed and when high intensity strikes, the music began. And of course when Brooks hung himself, it was sad music. :( Besides the gun shots, the editing skills were quite updated and there was no moment where I was unimpressed. All in all, I would recommend this movie to any friend who enjoys a drama, action, or mysterious movie, so anybody!! Because of the famous Morgan Freeman, this movie will go on forever and will always be known as the beginning of his career. He is a Hollywood legend, and therefore, this movie will also go down as a legend for years to come. Shaw shank Redemption has really impressed me with its constant storyline and of course, the crazy ending that Andy was planning a escape the entire time! Therefore, this movie should definitely be on anyones top movie list! Riverdale is a drama based on the Archie Comics about a teen (Jason Blossom) who was mysteriously killed and everyone is a suspect. Even though it is based on a comic book, it is nothing like it! There is a mystery, people develop relationships while others crumble, making it a very entertaining and dramatic show for anyone to watch! It does not just follow teens but also their parents, therefore, it can be for any ages. Also, the story line never stops, there has only been seven episodes and already, someone has died, a business has gone under, someone has gone to jail, and someone is pregnant! It has all the drama a good drama should have without being too cheesy like Secret Life of an American Teenager. This is because there is more to the story, everything that happens to everyone matters. For an example, the pregnancy isn't just this, it is the victims girlfriend who is pregnant! All in all, the show is more than just dramatic events effecting the characters, but also answering questions to the mystery about who killed Jason Blossom.
In any great TV show, there is a villain and in Riverdale, there are so many of them! That's what makes this show so entertaining, there are always a problem around the corner and conflicts between characters that will keep you on your toes! The main villain changes from time to time, just like Pretty Little Liars, the show makes you point the finger at someone different in every episode! Even so, the clear heroes in this show are the lead characters, Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Cheryl. Although, any of those character could secretly be a villain, which is what makes the characters in this show so complex and compelling. These characters are a big reason to watch this show, they are all so different and you are bound to be able to relate to at least one of them. Also, unlike a lot of other shows, the characters go through a lot that may not be in other shows (one student's father has become an alcoholic and the student has been living on his own to stay away). I like how the show is trying to make the characters seem real and relatable, not only is the storyline the problem, but their own lives too. Overall, the characters are probably my favourite aspect of this show and the way they present the characters really impress me. Presentation is very important in my opinion while watching tv. In this show, they show exceptional skills in this with different angles, wide shots and overview shots of the small town itself. This creates an overall feeling of a cute, quiet town where nothing goes wrong! Wrong, the town has been faced with a tragedy that they are not used to. Also, these close shots will show the emotions of the characters and what they may be thinking vs what they are saying (it can be two completely different things). The different angles can also be important for some people while watching so they know what is going on at all times, i.e where they are, who is there, and possibly what's about to happen, all of this, is included in this show. There are clear shots that will show you where the characters could be and they are the usual locations. Therefore, I believe the show has a great presentation in order to become a successful show. Lastly, what you need for a successful show is the basics, sound to be on point and the setting to set the scene. The typical sounds you may hear while watching the show is the bell ringing at school, music playing for slow motion walking, and the voice over of Jughead narrating what is happening at the moment. He usually sums up what we have learned in one episode and connects that episode to the next one. These are the basics anyone needs for a successful drama. A suspenseful plot, interesting and unpredictable characters, a hero, villain(s), presentation, sound, and lastly, a pilot of the show that will keep you coming back for more. In my opinion, Riverdale has all of these aspects about the show and I strongly suggest this show to anyone who is looking for a murder mystery type show and likes a little drama! |
